The building and construction industry offers many career options for those who are good with their hands. It can also be immensely satisfying too – you're often creating things that people need and use, working outdoors and keeping fit and healthy.
You can even change direction as you go. Many skills overlap and with a bit of training and the right tools, your base skills can easily be transferred to a new job or career path. Starting out as a carpenter, plumber or electrician will give you an excellent skill base. Hands-on experience is always the key to success in this field.
In building and construction, the level of manual work is balanced with thinking skills. Every day you will be planning, plotting, measuring and generally working things out.
If you would prefer managerial roles, you can start your career with a TAFE certificate or degree and progress from there.
