Welcome to Ballarat Grammar

Ballarat Grammar is an Anglican, co-educational day and boarding school with a current enrolment of over 1,200 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The School is recognised for its commitment to excellence, innovation and community. It places a very high priority on the welfare of staff and students, looking to nurture diverse talents and opening up new and exciting educational and professional opportunities wherever possible.

Located close to the shores of Lake Wendouree, the School boasts a 16 hectare campus that includes a separate, purpose-built Year 9 facility in the Heinz Centre, providing students with the opportunity to experience environmentally sustainable living practices. Our Melbourne campus, City Cite, hosts students from different schools throughout the year. Our Year 9 students spend 3 weeks in Melbourne, living and learning about city life.

The quality of the Art Department is recognised across the education sector and studio and exhibition spaces have recently been extended once again. A new, rural property has been acquired with a view to further developing activities that combine the environmental and agricultural elements of the curriculum.

The Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts was developed in 2006 through a partnership between Ballarat Grammar and the wider Ballarat Community. The large auditorium has been host to performances ranging from opera, pipe bands, and live theatre to orchestral and ensemble presentations. The School's dynamic Music School is housed at the rear of this state-of-the-art facility, enabling students to gain performance and music industry skills that are second to none.

Ballarat Grammar is a member of the International Round Square, an organisation of some 50 schools worldwide, all sharing a commitment to the principles espoused by the German educator Kurt Hahn (1886-1974) who founded the Outward Bound movement. The Round Square philosophy is promoted at the School through participation in student leadership programs, House community service activities, international service projects, participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, and international student exchanges with other Round Square schools.

Our Staff

For many years, the School has been able to attract and retain teaching staff of the highest calibre. A tradition of professionalism and extraordinary collegiality has been the hallmark of our diverse and talented staff. All staff, and their families, enjoy the care and support of each other and the School, and in return provide a genuine commitment to the betterment of students, colleagues, and the wider school community. Generous employment rebates on school fees are offered to staff after twelve months of employment at the School. Ballarat Grammar provides numerous opportunities for strategic professional development, keeping staff abreast of the latest in educational thinking and enhancing professional leadership.

In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, all staff take part in the pastoral care system. Involvement in tutorial groups, supervision of sporting activities, participation in our extensive Outdoor Education program, and opportunities for involvement in the boarding community are all part of life at the School.
